Disappointments can flare up all sorts of emotions in us all. For some of us it could be devastating and crippling. While for others it can propel positive changes in their lives. Depending on the way each individual is built and sustained, disappointments can yield good or bad fruits in the end. In my forty something years of living, I have had to handle my share of disappointments and I can honestly say that they did not always bring out the best in me at times and especially at the onset, but as time progresses, I have been able to grab a handle around using these kinds of experiences to push me towards making positive changes wherever necessary. During this process of transformation, the only foundational tools I have found helpful was the word of God, prayer, reflecting on past victorious experiences, as well as, seeking wise counsel when needed.
Today if you are facing disappointments, you maybe feeling sad, discouraged, hopeless, angry, tired, weak, taken for granted, and fearful, etc. All these mixed emotions, I totally get it! Know that you are not alone and this season will pass. Believe it or not, this is your time to shine, grow, and mature. Also more importantly a time to grow in your intimacy with God. The Bible tells us in Psalm 34:17-20“The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.” These scripture verses confirm and remind us that God is close and listening to us when we are faced with disappointments. We can rest assured that when we call upon him, he will answer, and deliver us from all of our fears, cares, and troubles.
The Bible also tells us of God’s thoughts towards us in Jeremiah 29:11-13 “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” These scripture verses also encourage us to go to God in prayer, seek him – he shall be found. God wants what is best for us and we will find his best when we seek him.
To conclude, disappointment is only temporary and in time if we seek, get to know, and trust God, he will restore us. He will also make us stronger, wiser, and fit to live a purposeful and fulfilled life in and through him. Be and stay blessed!
