Adversity faces everyone! It is defined as a misfortune, calamity, or some sort of distress impacting an individual or groups of people – mentally, spiritually, emotionally, physically, socially, or financially, etc. Its impact can feel like heavy blows coming from a fierce boxer who is competing with you in a ring, with the determination to win by knocking you out cold to the ground – with no return.

So how do you conquer adversity?

To conquer adversity, you must first refuse to be defeated by it with a winner’s mindset. Such a mindset must be tenacious and purpose driven enough to transcend into a positive self-image, that directs your abilities to endure and conquer it’s attack. You must also evidence holding on to your truth – by eliminating all doubts and fears. Then seek God for thorough knowledge and understanding of the matter by fasting, praying fervently, and reading His word to know what it says regarding the situation. When you have found such knowledge and understanding to endure and win over that specific adversity, do not lose sight of these gains. Hold on to them as you need air to breathe. And no matter what remain steadfast believing in these truths received. Do not waver! Take your position in them, and move into the direction that they are leading you. These are the truths that will help you to endure, as well as, set you free from adversity.

What do you get from adversity?

The word of God tells us in the Book of Psalms 30:5 that God’s anger endureth but for a moment; in His favor is life and weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. This tells you and I that God allows us to go through some things in life because of our sin nature that often angers Him, but these experiences will not last. After these testings and trials that we face in the form of adversity, comes His joy to us. And His joy is also our strength (Nehemiah 8:10). In conclusion, we will not only be joyous after winning over adversity, we will also become stronger, and wiser. In the end, we are pushed to grow into making wiser choices and decisions that will bring us closer to God and fulfill His purpose through us as we live our lives.
